Discover More Summer Adventures in Snowmass

Summer in Snowmass offers far more than scenic hikes and mountain biking—it’s an open invitation to explore, relax, and try something new. Whether you’re chasing adrenaline or seeking serenity, there’s a unique experience waiting for you in the heart of the Rockies.

Scenic Drives

Take the wheel and design your own mountain adventure. Scenic drives are one of the best ways to explore the breathtaking landscapes surrounding Snowmass. From high alpine passes to peaceful river valleys, each route offers a different perspective. Some of our favorite drives include:

  • Independence Pass – A dramatic ascent with panoramic views at over 12,000 feet.
  • Castle Creek Road – A serene drive to Ashcroft Ghost Town and Cathedral Lake Trailhead.
  • Frying Pan Road – A winding road along a pristine river to Ruedi Reservoir.
  • Marble – Visit this charming mountain town known for its historic quarry.

Stop by our front desk to get personalized suggestions and make sure your vehicle is suitable for the route you choose.

Scenic Gondola Rides

Soar above the treetops on a gondola ride to enjoy stunning views without the hike.

  • Snowmass Elk Camp Gondola & Chairlift: Ride to 11,325 feet for sweeping views of the Maroon Bells and Elk Mountains.
  • Aspen Mountain Gondola: Head to the top of Ajax for lunch at the Sundeck and panoramic views of Highlands Bowl and Pyramid Peak.

Gondolas typically operate from mid-June through Labor Day, with extended weekend service in May, September, and October. Lift tickets are required.

Golf & Tennis

Play your favorite sport with a mountain backdrop. Thanks to the high altitude, your golf ball flies farther—making for a fun (and slightly easier!) round. Contact our concierge at (970-923-2450) for recommended golf courses and tennis clubs throughout the valley.

Disc Golf

Tee off on two scenic 18-hole disc golf courses on Snowmass Mountain. A lift ticket is required to access these courses unless you choose to hike to the top and play your way down. Aspen Mountain also offers its own course from the top of Ajax. Discs are available to rent at Four Mountain Sports.

Horseback Riding

Explore over 20 miles of equestrian trails in Snowmass and beyond. Ride through wildflower-filled meadows, pine forests, and mountain ridgelines. Choose from half-day, full-day, or even overnight trips. Book your adventure with:

Hot Air Ballooning

Take your Colorado experience to new heights with a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Roaring Fork Valley. Drift peacefully above the peaks and groves with a view unlike any other.

  • Above It All Balloon Company (970-963-6148)
Don’t miss the Snowmass Balloon Festival in September, a magical weekend that often coincides with peak fall foliage.

Jeep Tours

Leave the driving to the pros and access remote, stunning parts of the Elk Mountains on a guided Jeep tour. These off-road excursions offer incredible views of wildflower meadows, mountain lakes, and hidden gems only locals know.

Rock Climbing

Whether you’re a seasoned climber or a first-timer, Snowmass has the terrain—and facilities—for you.

    • Two climbing walls in Snowmass Village, including the tallest indoor wall in North America at Base Village.
    • An additional wall atop Elk Camp Gondola offers a mountaintop climbing experience.
  • For serious climbers, Independence Pass offers world-class outdoor climbing routes. Reach out to Aspen Expeditions for your Rock Climbing Adventure.
